This project started when two missionaries saw the desperate need of the street children in Kisoro and offered a meal to a group of 22. During the meal, they prayed together that God would continue to provide them with daily food.

Upon their return, they decided to be the vessels for the answer to that prayer themselves and, with the help of many other people, provide these children the opportunity for a safe and hopeful future.

THE PROJECT PROVIDES:

  • A weekly meal distribution for street children in the city of Kisoro.
  • A rehabilitation home that provides shelter and education to the children.
  • The opportunity for each child to attend primary, secondary, or vocational education under the care of the organization.
  • Family reunification.
  • Support and social services for the children’s families.
  • Guidance and ongoing follow-up for children placed in schools or with relatives until they are self-sufficient.

Over the years, many children have become independent thanks to the rehabilitation home in Nyakabande. The children range in age from 3 to 24 years and in 2014, we were able to build a house specifically for girls.

In the Koinonia home, children are raised in a family-like environment and are given the opportunity to grow spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Besides their education, they participate in sports, music, singing and dancing, craft, sewing, and cooking lessons.

Currently, we house 26 children in the Kisoro home and 3 more externally through daily assistance, for a total of 29 children.
