Kisoro Tailored Training Program
Skills are vital to a child’s healthy development. We are committed to giving all our children the opportunity to pursue training. This is an essential part of their overall education and their future success. In addition to formal schooling, our children can follow vocational training courses such as sewing and woodworking. For many, this is a fun and enriching part of daily life. For others, it becomes a crucial source of income for the entire family.
The sewing workshop in Kisoro started in 2013 as a supplementary activity. The enthusiastic teacher at the time began with 11 children. The children’s excitement soon became contagious, and one by one others asked if they could join the classes too. Young and old, all ages were welcome. The class quickly expanded to four lessons per week, divided into two levels.

The training program covers the following learning steps:
- Sales
- Needle and thread
- Sewing machine
- Fine finishing
The course offers two types of training:
- Training on manual sewing machines
- Training on electric sewing machines

Many of our children master these skills well and are able to use them to provide financial help to their families. To make this possible, we gladly invest in a starter package —including a sewing machine. We also provide a resettlement package to support future self-reliance.
Not only are these skills valuable for the future — our talented kids are already putting them to good use today, making backpacks, toiletry bags and Sunday’s clothing for personal use.

At the annual Hope Festival in Antwerp, these handmade items are sold in support of the street children project.
